To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Movie Madness — one America’s last remaining video stores, with a film archive of more than 80,000 titles — I helped conceive, write, and edit Movie Madness: 30 Years Behind the Counter at Portland’s Iconic Video Store, a 60-page book about how the store evolved and why it endures. From concept to publication, I worked with the Hollywood Theatre’s Community Engagement Director Alison Hallett, Art Director Nate Ashley, and more to create a heartfelt, funny, and surprising book with rare photos, original art, and everything from an introduction by acclaimed writer/director Todd Haynes to a heavily redacted look at how some of the store’s less-than-legit titles were acquired.
